After 25 years of Critical Care Nursing, Barbara felt that a career change was in order. With the support of her husband, Marshall Ely, developed and started Back at the Ranch( Marshall is owner of Foothill Mill and Lumber Co in Paradise,CA) . Throughout the past 2 years, Back at the Ranch has been housed in a newly remodeled 3,OOO sq ft. building. Upon the completion of the building, Barbara and Marshall Ely's Back at the Ranch was voted 'Business of the Year 2006' by Paradise Chamber of Commerce and also received the Golden Poppy Award for the beautification of an old building in participation with the Paradise Downtown Revitalization Program. Barbara Ely is also the President of the newly developed Paradise Downtown Business Association and was given the prestigious acknowledgement given by the local Newspaper, Paradise Post of "One of the Most Influential Citizens of Paradise".
